Description:
20c Nathaniel Hawthorne (writer). Literary Arts 1983.

Despite the success of his works, "The House of Seven Gables' and "The Scarlet Letter," Nathaniel Hawthorne was never able to support himself as a writer. Instead, he made his living as a public servant, writing speeches for President Franklin Pierce and serving as Consul of the United States to Great Britain. Hawthorne died in 1864, while on vacation with former President Pierce.
